ABOUT THE ARTIST Michel Delacroix is a prominent French painter born in Paris in 1933,  best known as a master of the "naïf" or primitive art style. His distinctive and whimsical work, often depicting Parisian street scenes and French châteaux, evokes a sense of nostalgia for a simpler, romanticized past. Career and Style Artistic Movement:  Delacroix's work is characterized by the Naïf tradition, which is a style of art marked by its simple, childlike candor, flatness, and lack of conventional perspective, combined with rich, vibrant colors and detailed scenes. Subject Matter:  Much of his art depicts Paris during the German Occupation in the 1940s, a time of his childhood when the city was quiet, dark, and mostly free of cars and streetlights, which he recalls as a "great adventure" of brotherhood and spirit. His works also feature other French landmarks and countryside scenes. Education and Exhibitions:  He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later worked as an art teacher before fully devoting himself to his unique painting style at the age of 35. He has had over 300 solo exhibitions in the United States alone, in addition to many shows in Europe and Japan. Notable Achievements Throughout his career, Michel Delacroix has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix des Amateurs d'Art (Paris, 1973), Grand Prix de la Côte d'Azur (Cannes, 1976), and the Premier Prix de Sept Collines (Rome, 1976). He has also served as the official artist for events like the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games and the 2001 White House Pageant of Peace.
