The insert was used so you could keep your butter cold by putting ice chips underneath the insert - made during the time the world was changing from Art Nouveau to Art Deco - this piece is elegant and timeless. Beautiful white glaze with gold trim and accents. The pieces feature a white ceramic piece with a clear glaze with gold lines and rose floral decal. This pattern is either The Grosvenor or Goldein. Johnson Brothers was a British tableware manufacturer and exporter that was noted for its early introduction of "semi-porcelain" tableware. Condition: Excellent preowned antique condition. Very beautiful piece. No chips or cracks. Some no under the glaze crazing, typical of antique ceramics. Gold trim has some light wear from handling and or use. Floral decal in great condition. Pieces may have small factory production imperfections such as sand bumps, glaze skips, glaze pops, etc, all normal for factory pottery making. Little to no issues on these pieces.
