Authentic Zuni-style jet fetish earrings, featuring hand-carved peyote birds (spirit birds), small bird fetishes, and turtles. Each animal is individually carved from natural jet (fossilized lignite), a traditional material widely used by Zuni fetish carvers. Each earring contains three jet carvings, accented with black and brown heishi beads and metal spacers. The turtles show engraved shell detail, and the birds are carved in classic Zuni fetish profiles. The earrings are nicely balanced and lightweight. The ear wires have been changed by me to 14k white gold plated and metal beads appear to be nickel silver (a traditional silver-colored alloy commonly used in Native American jewelry; contains no silver). This does not detract from authenticity and is typical for fetish bead earrings of this era. These earrings were likely made in the 1990s–early 2000s, when Zuni fetish jewelry was especially popular in Southwest trading posts.
