QIANLONG-STYLE 18" CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE MEDALLION CHARGER PORCELAIN PLATE COURTYARD SCENE Up for your consideration is this striking 18" Chinese Rose Medallion porcelain charger, hand-painted in the classic famille rose palette with a lively courtyard scene at center — a gathering of elegantly robed figures, including scholars, attendants, and children, set beneath a garden pavilion with gilt latticework, goldfish, and blossoming peonies. The wide border is densely decorated with scrolling florals, butterflies, and auspicious symbols against a gilt background, all bordered in a fine red-and-gold rim. The reverse bears a red enamel seal mark in the style of a Qianlong reign mark, a decorative convention commonly used on Chinese export porcelain of this type rather than a literal date stamp. At a full 18" in diameter, this charger is considerably larger than the typical 12 to 16" pieces most often seen in this pattern, making it a real statement piece for a wall display, cabinet, or large table setting. The density of hand-painted detail and gilding reflect the labor-intensive decorating tradition associated with Jingdezhen export wares.
