A striking antique hand-painted famille noire porcelain plate, 9.5" in diameter, with a garden scene of orange, pink, and blue peonies rising from a stylized scholar's rock in soft turquoise and grey. Delicate prunus blossom sprays and clustered florals fill the white central field. The black border is accented with gilt scrollwork and a repeating band of small blossoms in white, orange, and pink. The base bears a hand-painted red seal-style mark, consistent with Japanese production in the Chinese famille noire taste, early 20th century.
