Suazo likely refers to Emily Suazo-Tafoya, a Kiowa and Santa Clara Pueblo potter known for her handcrafted and etched (sgraffito) polychrome and redware pottery.  Potter: Emily Suazo-Tafoya Family tradition: Emily learned pottery from her grandmother, Clara Suazo. Technique: She specializes in incised (sgrafitto) pottery, where designs are etched into the surface of the clay. She uses traditional materials, digging clay from local hills and combining it with volcanic ash. Style: After forming the pot, she applies a colored clay slip, polishes it, fires it to a desired color, and then carefully etches intricate contemporary designs.   Emily is known for her contemporary shapes, like this square, with traditional designs.
