Vintage West German regimental beer stein featuring colorful Bavarian Luftschiffer-Battalion military and early aviation imagery, an ornate pewter lid with eagle finial, and a translucent lithophane scene molded into the interior bottom. The stein depicts military personnel, early airplanes, a Zeppelin or airship, Bavarian coat-of-arms imagery, unit names, and German service-related inscriptions in the traditional style of German military reservist and regimental steins. A particularly attractive feature is the lithophane in the bottom of the stein. When the stein is viewed toward a light source, a hidden figural scene becomes visible through the translucent porcelain. This is a later West German commemorative piece rather than an original circa-1910 military reservist stein. The original hang tag remains attached and is marked “Reines Zinn,” “München,” and “Made in W. Germany.” Reines Zinn identifies the metal lid and fittings as pewter/tin. CONDITION Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks noted. There is one minor black scuff along the edge of the opening, as shown in the photos. Otherwise, the ceramic body presents very well with bright, detailed decoration. The pewter lid, eagle finial, hinge, and decorative thumb lift show normal vintage surface wear and patina consistent with age. The original Made in W. Germany / Reines Zinn hang tag remains attached.
