PUBL: Illustrated This is a nice selection of EASTER Holiday postcards that are ANTIQUE from the early 1900s.  These postcards are EMBOSSED (4) and Flat Printed (2).  These postcards have the classic Easter motifs such as: EASTER EGGS, CHICKS, FLOWERS, RURAL SCENES, FRUIT, etc.  Three of the postcards are AIR BRUSHED with color.  They are attractive postcards with good detail, which makes them pleasing to look at. They were made by the same publisher.     The publisher of these postcards, Illustrated Postal Card (1904-14; New York, Berlin), was a major USA publisher of postcards who published in Germany (Leipzig, Saxony).  Besides postcards, they also published fine art cards that were very popular.  The company has a distinctive eagle trademark logo and is considered one of the “most wanted publishers” by collectors.  They produced many beautifully embossed, heavy embossed (with an extra sheet on the back), air brushed, glitter and other novelty postcards. They were one of the most respected publishing houses during the “Golden Age of Postcards” (1908-1915 era). Three of these postcards is AIR BRUSHED. These types of postcards are unique and only had a "short life" in the history of postcards.  Most of the Air Brushed postcards were "Printed in Germany" during the early years of the "Golden Age of Postcards" (1908-1915 era). Publishers stopped making these types of postcards during World War I.  Air Brushed postcards were first made by embossing the paper, and then hand-coloring the paper by using an air-operated tool to spray paint the ink or dye onto the postcard. Those that were designed with GOLD / SILVER TRIM and GLITTER had an extra step since that was added afterwards to enhance the postcard’s beauty.  Air brushed postcards have now become collector items. They are a pleasure to look at with their bright and colorful look.   These are good postcards to add to a collection. They are nicely made, and will appeal to collectors because of their age, their colorful and attractive nature, and the way they capture life back in the early 1900s. Overall, a nice selection of antique Easter postcards at a reasonable price.     The postcards are UNPOSTED (2) and POSTED (4) with cancel dates of 1907-15. These postcards would have been "Printed in Germany" during the "Golden Age of Postcards" (1908-1915 era). Four of these have UNDIVIDED backs, and two have DIVIDED backs. Postcards with UNDIVIDED BACKS were used from 1901-1907 era.  An undivided back is a good indicator of the age of the postcard and it has historical significance.  During this time period, ONLY THE ADDRESS could be put on the back, and any written message had to be done on the front of the postcard.  These types of postcards are collector items now because of their age, and because of the limited number of such postcards in existence today.  Also, collectors like to own postcards that were published during the beginning years of the postcard hobby.     These are BETTER POSTCARDS and good for a collector. The postcards will keep their value!  They are sleeved and in good condition.    Regarding condition, please note that we try to remove damaged postcards from our lots, and only sell those postcards that are worth having in a collection.  However, because of their age (over 100 years old!), please expect some creases, cuts, stains, and edge wear on the postcards.  We do not want you to be disappointed, so look closely at the photos we provide to see the postcards and the backs.     The postcards are shipped in a sturdy envelope.  We only ship within the USA; we do not sell or ship internationally.  USA shipping is with tracking, and we use  eBay Standard Envelope  mail when the value is under $20 and the weight is under 3 oz; and, we use USPS Ground Advantage when the value is over $20 or the weight is over 3 oz.  We  combine shipping  whenever possible.  If you purchase multiple lots, you can wait and we will send you an invoice for the combined shipping before you pay.  In case you have already paid for the lots, we will still combine the shipment and refund you any extra shipping charges back to your account.   Please visit our eBay store,   VINTAGE POSTCARDS FOR COLLECTORS ,  for other fine antique and vintage postcards and collectible items.  We are a well-established antique postcard dealer, and have a good reputation for meeting our customer's expectations.  We have a strong inventory of antique 1900's HOLIDAY and GREETINGS postcards including from publisher's such as TUCK & SONS and INTERNATIONAL ART PUBLISHING (with artist Ellen Clapsaddle).
