It's slightly over 1.5" wide. Here's a beautiful antique pin / brooch made of sterling silver, with a central black stone and marcasite lining the edges, which has a sparkly appearance.  The black stone could be onyx, but I don't know how to tell for sure. In excellent condition... and no stones missing, as you can see in the pictures.  Keep in mind that when viewing them full size, you're seeing the pin much larger than life.  It's slightly over 1.5" wide. On the back it is marked sterling.
