UND Backs. 1 Glitter.  This is a nice selection of CHRISTMAS postcards that have the classic Christmas Motifs seen on ANTIQUE postcards from the early 1900s.  The postcards are nicely drawn and have a colorful and attractive look to them.  These postcards have a nice seasonal feel and are good postcards to add to a collection.  They would appeal to collectors because they have good detail and are pleasing to look at.    These postcards are from the publisher Raphael Tuck & Sons and they are part of the Holly Postcard Series (Series # 100; some are un-numbered).  There were 48 postcards in this series set and they show many different scenes including SNOWY VILLAGE SCENES, SUNSETS, BIRDS, HOLLY & BERRIES, CHURCH BELLS, CANDLES, etc.  The postcards are nicely EMBOSSED.  They also have GOLD TRIM in the design and wording.  They have good detail, which makes them very interesting to look at.  These postcards have UNDIVIDED BACKS.  Note that the postcard with the large bells has GLITTER.  This was quite unique at the time.   Postcards with UNDIVIDED BACKS were used from the 1901-1907 era.  An undivided back is a good indicator of the age of the postcard and it has historical significance.  During this time period, ONLY THE ADDRESS could be put on the back, and any written message had to be done on the front of the postcard.  These types of postcards are collector items now because of their age, and because of the limited number of such postcards in existence today.  Also, collectors like to own the postcards that were published during the beginning years of the postcard hobby.    These postcards were published by Raphael Tuck & Sons, who is a very important and valued publisher. They were in the publishing business in England from 1866 through the mid 1960s.  They first started with publishing Christmas postcards in the 1903 era and had them printed in their native Prussia, Germany. They are noted for high quality postcards and ephemera (booklets) that now have a huge appeal to collectors. Tuck’s “Oilette” Series was the first VIEWS postcards published in 1903 and they came in sets. These became Tuck's most popular postcards, and a “standard” model for other publishers. The firm was so well respected that they had the honor of being appointed in 1894 by Queen Victoria as the "Art Publishers to their Majesties the King & Queen of the United Kingdom.”        These postcards are UNPOSTED (1) and POSTED (3) with cancel dates of 1907-08. One postcard was mailed much later and has a cancel of 1989, but it was published back in 1906 era.  The publisher Tuck printed their earlier postcards in Saxony, Germany.    These are BETTER POSTCARDS and good for a collector. The postcards will keep their value!  They are sleeved and in good condition.
