The Sculpture: The clock is crowned with a magnificent, finely cast classical sculpture titled "Après les Papillons" (After the Butterflies) by the celebrated French sculptor Ernest Justin Ferrand (1846–1932). This is a gorgeous & authentic, beautifully preserved 3-piece French Art Nouveau era mantel clock garniture set dating to circa 1900. This complete fireplace mantle set features the central figural clock along with its two highly desirable, original matching urn side garnitures. Complete 3-piece sets of this era are increasingly rare, as the decorative side urns were frequently separated or broken over the last century. The Sculpture: The clock is crowned with a magnificent, finely cast classical sculpture titled "Après les Papillons" (After the Butterflies) by the celebrated French sculptor Ernest Justin Ferrand (1846–1932). The romantic Art Nouveau figure captures a frivolous young woman on a butterfly hunt, beautifully rendered with flowing, windblown drapery and stylized floral waves swirling around her feet. The front retains its original, crisp copper title plate reading: "APRÈS LES PAPILLONS Par Ferrand", and the sculpture base bears Ferrand’s incised signature in the casting. The piece is crafted from spelter (zinc alloy) and finished with a rich, glowing antique gold-bronze patina. The Clock Base & Movement: The heavy, architectural clock case is constructed from stunning panels of pale green veined onyx resting on four elaborate scrolling brass bracket feet. The movement features a gorgeous hand-painted French porcelain dial. The brass backplate of the mechanical clock works is crisply stamped with the prestigious round pastille logo of Vincenti & Cie, bearing the mark "Médaille d'Argent 1855", which denotes the company’s prize win at the Paris World's Fair. Condition & Functionality Report: This suite is an untouched estate find. The green onyx base is in wonderful antique shape with no structural cracks. The matching side garniture urns are also completely intact. The clock mechanism chimes when prompted, and its original pendulum is present and included. The original winding key is missing. Very light flea bites to some edges of the garnitures, no cracks or large chips. There is a tiny chips to the back right top edge of the onyx platform the statue is mounted on. This is very easy to miss and is not of great cosmetic concern. Solid and ready to impress. Some of the veining has created a natural hairline over the years and though some can be felt by touch they are of no structural concern. Guaranteed to become the focal point in any room. All of our clocks are sold as decorative art in unknown mechanical condition. The metalwork shows minor dust collection, typical light patina wear, and soft rubbing to the high points Condition: Used.
