View Vintage Japanese Lusterware Teacup & Saucer, Hand Painted, Gilded - S12078 with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. There is no functional wear and was likely never used as a vessel. The gold gilt is bright, highly reflective, and fully intact. The saucer mirrors the design of the teacup, with six hand-painted oval windows that visually align with the cup lobes, alternating beautifully between soft pink floral sprays and bright yellow blossom clusters. This is a beautiful vintage Japanese hand-painted lusterware 6-lobed, four footed teacup & saucer set, probably made sometime between 1930 and 1950. It is an exceptionally beautiful and structurally unique example of vintage Japanese export porcelain. Unlike standard mass-produced transferware, this collector's set was crafted using an intensive, multi-firing technique. The six lobed, four footed body and intricate split-branch Rococo handle were cast from separate molds, manually slip-joined, bisque fired, then glazed with a glossy white exterior and an iridescent interior, and fired again to set the base glaze. The saucer was made in a similar fashion. The green and orange framework for the lobed floral images and the hand painted floral images themselves were then applied and a third firing was done to fix the overglaze. Each of the twelve botanical images, six on the cup and six on the saucer, are unique. Finally the moriage beading, jeweled overlay to the floral images, and intricate gold scrollwork and highlights were applied, and the fourth and final low temperature firing was done. The saucer mirrors the design of the teacup, with six hand-painted oval windows that visually align with the cup lobes, alternating beautifully between soft pink floral sprays and bright yellow blossom clusters. Neither piece is marked, as was typical for high-end Japanese novelty porcelain export lines of this era that originally relied on temporary foil or paper seller labels. The teacup is 2.75" and 3.75" in diameter. The saucer is 5.5" inches in diameter. Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition. There is no functional wear and was likely never used as a vessel. The moriage beading is completely intact on both pieces. There are no missing enamel dots or chipped glass jewel work. The gold gilt is bright, highly reflective, and fully intact. There is excellent coverage on high-contact handle and rim areas. There are absolutely no chips, cracks, hairlines, or flea bites in the porceleain. Item #S12078 Condition: Used.
