Beautiful vintage Sarah Coventry “Ocean Star” brooch dating to 1968, featuring an intricate five-point starfish/flower design embellished with tiny turquoise-blue beads and creamy faux seed pearls. Each of the five dimensional points is detailed with textured gold-tone rope/chain work, openwork edging, turquoise-colored beads and imitation pearls. The layered construction gives the brooch wonderful texture and dimension and makes it especially pretty when viewed from an angle. This is the collectible Ocean Star design introduced by Sarah Coventry in 1968, a wonderful example of the colorful coastal-inspired costume jewelry produced during the late 1960s. Documented examples use the same gold-tone openwork construction with faux turquoise and pearl bead decoration.
