For sale is a vintage Santa Clara Pueblo carved blackware pottery pot or jar by noted artist Madeline Naranjo (1916 - 2020). It is about 5" wide by about 3 3/8" tall and it features a deep-carved Avanyu design - the serpent spirit of water. The non-carved portion of the jar is polished, whereas the inside and carving is not. There is surface wear throughout, but no cracks or chips. The jar is signed by Madeline on the bottom, but not dated. She started producing pottery items around 1930, so this one could be quite old.
