Montpelier, VERMONT - The Pavilion Hotel - Model Ts:  The original Pavilion Hotel in Montpelier was a grand 19th-century landmark, a key part of Vermont's history, visited by presidents, but it burned down; the current red brick building on the State House Green, housing the Vermont History Museum, is a 1970s creation designed to look like the old hotel, blending modern function with historic frontier-style architecture, preserving the spirit of the lost original.  The Original Pavilion Hotel (The "Lost" Hotel) -  Era: Post-Civil War, a grand example of American hotel architecture. -  Features: Famous for its handsome, two-story veranda. Significance: A central part of Montpelier's growth, a social hub, and a site visited by U.S. Presidents. -  Fate: It was eventually lost to fire, but its legacy inspired the new building.  The Current Pavilion Building (The Museum) -  Construction: Built in the 1970s as a modern state office building, not the original. -  Design: Intentionally designed to mimic the historic Pavilion Hotel, with deep verandas and high ceilings, blending into the State House complex. -  Function: Today, it houses the Vermont Historical Society Museum and state offices. -  Location: Situated right next to the Vermont State House.  -  In essence, the Pavilion Building you see today is a thoughtful homage, a "new" building built to look like a beloved "old" one, keeping the memory of the historic Pavilion Hotel alive in downtown Montpelier.
