It is stamped “Sterling” and has been professionally tested as solid sterling silver. Beautiful antique Italian designer/artisan hand-carved gold over sterling silver cameo shell brooch. This wonderful, hand-carved cameo is 1 5/16” long by 1 1/16” wide and weighs 5.1 grams. The carving is exquisite and dimensional featuring a lovely woman with delicate features, an ornate, elegant coiffure adorned with flowers and with matching flowers on one shoulder of her Grecian gown. The setting is equally fine in dimensional, sturdy filigree in gold over sterling silver precious metal. It is finished with a very well made pin and spring ring fastener that works perfectly. While this cameo was made to be a brooch, the open filigree would allow a small bail or jump ring to be added to the top which would turn this brooch into a pendant. I have done this before and it works very well. This cameo is so well done, that it would be a delightful option to also wear it as a necklace. It is stamped “Sterling” and has been professionally tested as solid sterling silver. The carved cameo has been examined and verified as an authentic, hand-carved cameo by a certified gemologist.
