This gorgeous rare 1880’s French Porcelain Sevres-style Jardiniere with Hand‑Painted Portraits is one of the most beautiful shades of Palais blue…just so rich and so vibrant. 🩵 This heavy magical Napoleonic piece is sculptural, detailed, and so full of elegance. It’s finished in a rich turquoise glaze and white reliefs. It has glowing gilt ram’s heads on each side along with petite Greek key urn-style handles. You will notice so much influence layered in this piece..rococo, Roman, Greek, neoclassical… There are two beautifully done portrait medallions. The oval portrait reserves are hand-painted. One side shows Napoleon Bonaparte, the other, his love, Josephine. The underside has no mark but a hand-incised number “46”, a typical number mark from the era which tells me it was studio-made. The rarity, color, and the duel hand painted portraits makes this a very special piece. You won’t find another, I couldn’t! It measures: 10” W x 4.5” D x 7.5” H Beautiful condition with typical rubbing to the gilt/gilt loss which shows its age naturally. No cracks and no chips on the body. On the interior of the underside of the base I see a chip that was repaired. This piece displays beautifully and is in lovely condition.
