Vintage Mexican Tonalá-style pottery vase featuring a beautifully hand-painted bird and floral design. The muted blue-gray speckled glaze is accented with deep cobalt blue, warm rust, ochre, and earthy brown tones for a wonderfully organic, collected look. This substantial cylindrical vase measures approximately 11" tall and 4½–5" across the opening. Wheel-thrown construction and variations in the glaze and decoration give the piece plenty of handmade character. An original "Hecho en Mexico" paper label remains attached. Several small firing fissures are present along the foot, consistent with the handmade firing process. They appear stable and do not extend up the body; please see close-up photos. Additional variations in glaze, texture, and finish are characteristic of handmade pottery.
