Against the softly aged gilt silver, the effect is dramatic without becoming gaudy. There are necklaces which sit quietly around the neck and behave themselves, and then there are necklaces which appear to have arrived armed . This extraordinary vintage necklace by David Andersen of Norway belongs rather firmly to the second category. Crafted in 925S sterling silver with a warm silver-gilt finish , the necklace is composed of alternating round and elongated elements, each decorated in luminous cobalt-blue enamel . The circular links provide a wonderfully rhythmic counterpoint to the long, slender spikes, which radiate outward around the neck like a particularly elegant Scandinavian sunburst—or perhaps something worn to a diplomatic meeting at which one wishes to discourage unnecessary disagreement. The enamel is especially beautiful. Depending upon the light, the rounded elements shift through shades of brilliant blue, while the elongated forms have an almost electric intensity. Against the softly aged gilt silver, the effect is dramatic without becoming gaudy.
