It looked like it had been used as a planter before because it had remnants of a plant lining on it, but the lining was falling apart, so I removed it. This basket spent a long while just airing out on my covered back porch, then I sprayed it down with water once, let it sit inside for a while, sprayed it down with water again and scrubbed it gently with a soft bristle brush, and let it sit inside in a cool, dry place for a while. Large Vintage Handmade Adirondack Twig Basket, Rustic Country Bark Planter.  Measures about 19.5" (including the handles) x 15" x 15.5" at the longest, widest, and highest points.  This was in my shed when I bought my house last summer.  II was told the shed hadn't been opened since about '05, so while I believe this is vintage, I'm not sure just how vintage it is (it might be a newer vintage).  It looked like it had been used as a planter before because it had remnants of a plant lining on it, but the lining was falling apart, so I removed it.  This basket spent a long while just airing out on my covered back porch, then I sprayed it down with water once, let it sit inside for a while, sprayed it down with water again and scrubbed it gently with a soft bristle brush, and let it sit inside in a cool, dry place for a while. While this piece has a lot of character, it does have flaws.  Some of the ties keeping the sticks together have come undone slightly in places, some of the bark has fallen off, and some of the sticks have split slightly in spots.  Please note that despite the fact I've cleaned it up and it's sat for a while, there is still some organic matter (likely some bark and a little dirt) that comes off when you set this down somewhere; you can see remnants in the last photo from when I was taking pictures for this listing.  It's still a very sturdy piece, but I'm hesitant to scrub it with anything abrasive, and the natural tendency of bark is to shed some, anyway.  If you purchase this item, please anticipate some organic matter to come lose during the shipping process and wherever you place or utilize this in your home or business.
