This hand-carved wooden bluebill decoy comes straight from the estate of Richard Tutin of Seneca Park, Maryland, and is marked "R.T." on the bottom. With its glass eyes, painted feather detail, keel, and original-style anchor weight, it has the honest working-decoy look collectors love. Product Details • Hand-carved wooden duck decoy, appears to be a bluebill (scaup) drake • Initials "R.T." carved into the underside (Richard Tutin) • Provenance: from the estate of Richard Tutin of Seneca Park, Maryland; his original carved decoy • Solid wood body with separate carved head, brown glass eyes, and painted gray bill with black nail • Wooden keel/weight board on the underside • Anchor weight with metal loop and braided cord attached • Feather-style paint detail on the back and sides • Approx. 12" long body (bill to tail) as measured in photos; anchor cord adds length • Age not verified; maker is unlisted in my references, so sold as pictured with the estate history • Great for decoy collectors, Chesapeake Bay and waterfowl decor, cabins, and lodges Condition Notes • Overall used condition with age-appropriate wear consistent with hand-carved working decoys. • Paint loss and flaking throughout, most noticeable on the underside, along the keel board, and on the breast and back. • Bare wood showing at the tail tip, on the head crown, and near the eye. • Visible cracks/checks in the wood, including a seam along the underside and hairline cracks on the back and near the neck; a small seam is visible at the crown of the head. • Small holes/marks on the bill and light scuffs on the head. • Dirt, grime, and surface staining from age and storage; not cleaned or restored. • Rope on the neck and anchor cord are old and worn; the cord is loosely wrapped, not original-condition tight. • Anchor weight is oxidized/dull with cord attached; age and originality of the weight are unknown. • Please review all photos, which are part of the description.
