I have another Chinese Cloisonné vase, much later and larger and is noticeably lighter in weight. See simplicity, in the complicated- Laozi, Tao Te Ching Making a cloisonné piece is a complicated process, involving at least six steps: base hammering, soldering/rice paste to attach wire design, enamel filling, and polishing and gilding. Often times, in the past, these pieces were commissioned by small, social elites. The iconography on the pieces were based on Chinese antiquity. Usually using Buddhist, Daoist or Confucian symbols. Often times the Lotus or Lotus scrolls were included. Depending on the period of time, the piece could either be bronze or copper. I believe this piece is bronze. I have another Chinese Cloisonné vase, much later and larger and is noticeably lighter in weight. With the amount of enamel detail the piece visually reads Daoist. Starting with the ruyi head band lappets in turquoise ground around the upper neck and shoulder edge. Two large lotus blossoms are on the neck.
