This trinket box features a unique cowrie shell outlined in brass Note the inside of shell has a unique spiral on both halves. I believe ( googled it ) this is called an “operculum” - a natural, hard “trapdoor” created by sea and freshwater snails to seal themselves inside their shell. Attached to the snails foot , it protects them from predators and prevents drying out . When opened / both sides together measure 4” Approx 2.25 “ across Approx 1.5” high Condition: Used.
