The set is finely hand-painted with landscape scenes and decorative borders in the traditional Kutani style. Particularly unusual is the detailed hand-painted landscape decoration inside the cup, a feature far less commonly encountered than standard exterior decoration. The Kaburaki family were among the most important Kutani merchants and producers, having been involved with the trade since 1822 and playing a significant role in the revival and international success of Kutani ware during the Meiji period. Their products were exhibited internationally and became highly regarded for their quality and workmanship.
