Description A beautiful antique German mechanical pop-up Valentine featuring a charming young sweetheart couple surrounded by an elaborate blue floral design. The dimensional construction features a young girl carrying a colorful bouquet as she stands closely beside a young boy dressed in a sailor-style outfit. He carries a satchel filled with Valentine envelopes, several decorated with red heart seals. Behind the couple is an ornate die-cut backdrop covered with deep blue flowers. At the center above them is a pair of birds nestled within the decorative design, adding another romantic element to the composition. The Valentine opens into a freestanding three-dimensional display and features the elaborate die-cut construction and richly colored printed imagery associated with German mechanical Valentines produced for the international market around the turn of the 20th century. Dating to approximately 1900–1915, this lovely example would make a wonderful addition to a collection of antique Valentines.
