Description A wonderfully elaborate antique German mechanical Valentine featuring a charming Cupid scene surrounded by romantic symbols of love, music and devotion. The dimensional Valentine opens into a freestanding display with a winged Cupid presenting a bright red heart to a young girl. Behind them is an ornate musical setting featuring a large stringed instrument, abundant blue roses, metallic gold detailing and a white dove. A second dove appears among pink roses and flowering branches in the foreground. Across the top, the elaborate die-cut design reads “Valentine Greeting.” When opened, a decorative sentiment panel reveals a romantic verse celebrating the cooing dove, the heart, music and love. The richly colored die-cut figures, dimensional construction and metallic accents are characteristic of elaborate German Valentines produced for the international market around the turn of the 20th century.
