The Conta and Boehme factory can be traced to the year of 1814 when Albert Wilhelm Ernst Conta and Christian Gottlieb Boehme purchased a small porcelain factory in the town of Poessneck. By the second half of the 1800s the factory was producing many small household porcelain items: dolls, figurines, trays, boxes, inkwells, and also matchboxes with matchstrikers that became an important collectible objects. I am starting to post a small collection of Conte and Boehme match strikers. This one is a beautiful figurine with a box for matches and a striker plate. The matchbox is made in a form of a well with a figure of a boy filling his water pitcher.  Marked with Conta and Boehme impressed shield mark and the model number 4238. The ink mark is the painter's mark. It is a nicely crafted artistic representation of late 19th century young children with wonderful details and handpainted.
