This elegant service for six is finely crafted and richly decorated, exemplifying the refined artistry associated with Japanese export porcelain of the period. Each bowl is made of fine porcelain and intricately hand-painted in the Satsuma manner. Lavish geometric borders frame vibrant, highly detailed scenes depicting Japanese scholars and courtiers set within lush gardens and temple landscapes. The compositions are beautifully executed with delicate brushwork and subtle gilded accents that enhance the overall richness of the decoration. Each bowl is marked on the underside with the artist’s signature. Over time the set has developed a pleasing, time-earned patina that enhances its antique character.
