VTG Hand Painted Porcelain Oval Pansy Flower Brooch Brass Rollover Clasp AUSTRIA APPROX MEASUREMENTS 1¾" Long 1⅝" Wide 1" Pin DESCRIPTION Vintage or antique oval brooch made of porcelain that is handpainted with flowers and a gold rim. It has a brass bar pin back with rollover clasp marked Austria. The flowers are pansies which traditionally symbolize in the "language of flowers" (floriography),   loving thoughts, remembrance, and consideration. The name "pansy" itself is derived from the French word pensée, meaning "thought". Origins: Similar pieces were popular from the Victorian era through the mid-20th century, often produced in regions known for fine porcelain like France and Austria. CONDITION There are areas of gold missing around that trim, but I think that is from manufacture, not from chips. The edges are smooth, they do not feel broken. Other than that, I think it's very good condition.
