Photo Overview A crisp real-photo postcard looking north up Main Street in downtown Springfield, Vermont, circa 1930, captures the turreted Brooks Hotel on the left, early TEXACO “banjo” gas pumps at the curb, striped-awning storefronts, and a row of 1920s automobiles and delivery trucks lining the brick commercial blocks toward the distant church steeple. Two youngsters in white summer clothes cross the cracked pavement while a motorist idles a stylish coupe in the right foreground, offering an evocative slice of small-town New England life between the wars.
