Photo Overview Dramatic real photo postcard showing downtown Montpelier, Vermont completely inundated during the devastating flood of November 4, 1927, looking down State Street past brick commercial blocks, church steeple, and the Vermont State House area as floodwaters rise nearly to first floor windows while residents stand on rooftops and debris floats in the submerged street. The Great Vermont Flood of 1927 is considered the worst natural disaster in the state's recorded history, with more than 80 fatalities and widespread destruction of bridges, roads, farms, and downtown districts like Montpelier's State Street seen here.
