This is an original WWI U.S. Army double-soldier portrait displayed in its early 20th-century oval convex “bubble glass” frame. The photograph is a charcoal-enhanced studio portrait dating to approximately 1917–1919, based on the M1917 stand-collar tunics and overseas caps worn by both soldiers. These domed-glass portraits were commonly made for families when soldiers enlisted, deployed, or returned home. This example features two young U.S. Army servicemen posed together and retains its original convex glass, faux-wood oval frame, and original wood backing with early rope hanger. A handwritten name appears on the back (“Edwin Aase”), added by family decades later, but the identities of the soldiers themselves are not confirmed.
