Vintage Wedgwood blue jasperware brooch in its original box — an oval pale blue jasper cameo with a white classical relief of figures at a sacrifice altar, set in a beaded silver-tone mount, with the original navy Wedgwood presentation box and care leaflet. Wedgwood has been making jasperware since Josiah Wedgwood perfected it in the 1770s, and the blue-and-white classical cameo is the most recognizable design in English ceramics. This brooch shows a Greek-style scene of draped figures around an altar with a tripod — one of the traditional Wedgwood relief subjects. The back of the plaque is impressed WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND with additional letters and the number 75, which on Wedgwood jasper jewelry of this era generally indicates the year of manufacture (1975). Complete in its original box with the Wedgwood "Portland vase" logo on the lid and the folded "Wedgwood Jasper Jewellery" care leaflet, which makes it a ready-to-give gift. MARK: WEDGWOOD / MADE IN ENGLAND impressed on the back of the jasper plaque, with "R 75" below. MEASUREMENTS: Brooch approx. 1 3/4 in x 1 1/4 in. Box approx. 2 1/4 in square.
