The small cloth baby is printed with a swaddled infant design on the front and patterned fabric on the reverse. Vintage hand-carved wood folk art sculpture depicting a mother with a removable stuffed cloth baby nestled in a carved opening. Beautifully carved face, hair and upper body with the natural grain, knots, voids and irregularities of the wood incorporated into the design. The small cloth baby is printed with a swaddled infant design on the front and patterned fabric on the reverse. It fits neatly into the carved opening and was found with the sculpture. Measures approximately 19.5” H x 8” W x 5.5” D. Unmarked; artist, age and country of origin are unknown. Mexican or Latin American origin is possible but has not been verified. Vintage condition with age-related wear. Natural knots, grain separations, cavities, color variations and irregularities are present throughout and appear inherent to the wood and carving.
