Symbolic interpretations: The lotus flower 'throne' symbolizes his divinity. His left hand is formed in a mudra of 'wisdom' or the teaching of awakening. His right hand faces down, 'touching the earth', which some say symbolizes when the Buddha attained enlightenment, "he reportedly used this gesture to summon the earth to bear witness to his victory over the seductive forces of illusion....
