(possibly Kangxi period) Famille Verte Black-Ground molded biscuit moonflask vase of the flattened oval body with a flared neck and raised on an everted foot. The neck is flanked by a pair of handles in the form of mythical Luduan unicorn heads. Each side of the body is exquisitely and richly painted in yellow, green, and pale pink, with a Chinese general riding a horse surrounded by infantry soldiers armed with swords and shields in a rocky landscape, on a heavy, enameled black ground. The flattened body of the vase was made from two separate halves; the foot and pair of handles were also made separately, and then all the pieces were connected before the kiln firing process. CONDITION: The vase is in good condition, considering its age, with no cracks, restorations, or repairs, except for some chips on the neck rim, minor scratches, and flecking to glaze. Interior of the neck with minor split, in the joints of the two individual parts of the flask (Kiln Firing Faults). The base was drilled for the electrical cord because many antique Chinese porcelain vases were converted into lamps in the first half of the 20th century.
