View 1800s T&V France Limoges Hand Painted Pottery Tea Set Kettle Creamer Sugar Bowl with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. Limoges porcelain consumption took off after the French Revolution, by 1819 factories started to pop up in Limoges. It is really quite a lovely and exquisite set. Golden raised script-like filigree style border, lid, and base accents hand done by Ms. Morris and extravagant golden handles and spout. This set: The hallmark is stamped T & V for Tressemann & Vogt, a government recognized successful company working in Limoges. A woman name Mary Alta Morris in 1895 in Columbus, Ohio then took this set and painted it in gold adornments making it a unique one of a kind piece. This was typically a woman’s traditional pastime back in the Victorian era of painting China. Her signature is on the bottom of the pieces, this is not kiln fired on, nor is any of the gold design, and should be carefully handled if washing the set. It is really quite a lovely and exquisite set. Soft rose, carnation and floral pinks and red pastels break up a white base and teal Easter-green top. Golden raised script-like filigree style border, lid, and base accents hand done by Ms. Morris and extravagant golden handles and spout. This set, especially the tea kettle, really gives me Beauty & The Beast vibes :) Condition of set: With the exception of the sugar bowl appearing to be missing it’s lid—the tea set; kettle, creamer cup, and the sugar bowl are all in very good condition, especially considering the age. There are no chips that I have found on any of the pieces. But yes sadly the sugar bowl lid is unfortunately missing. History of Limoges porcelain: The region of Limoges in France was world renowned for its porcelain ceramic made of kaolin, local feldspar, and quartz. Rich nutrient dense clay from the river Vienne was used to craft the art and pottery kilns wood fired from the forests of Limousin cured the works. Limoges porcelain consumption took off after the French Revolution, by 1819 factories started to pop up in Limoges. By 1861 there were at least 27 factories producing Limoges porcelain and American interest in the special art pottery was growing. Some history on Mary Alta Morris: Morris, Alta M. : Watercolorist and china decorator, born in Ohio about 1872 and active in Columbus (Franklin) from 1892 or earlier to at least 1900. She received five "best" awards in painting, amateur category, at the 1892 Ohio state Fair, and "best specimen, water colors," professional class, in 1898. In 1899 she was appointed teacher of china painting at the Columbus Art School.
