This large, primitive bell has wonderful age and character, showing its history of use on farms and pastures. Features: Size: approx. 6.25" tall (including handle), 4.75" wide at base, 2.75" deep Weighty construction – forged iron body with brass/bronze wash (plating now worn) Seamed design with rivets – classic 19th/early 20th century farm bell construction Loop handle for attaching to strap or yoke Clapper present, but replaced (modern brass weight on wire – originally would have had a forged iron clapper) Surface wear, oxidation, and plating loss consistent with age and authentic farm use Produces a loud, resonant tone when struck History & Use: These large cowbells were used on cattle, oxen, or draft horses to help farmers locate their animals in fields and woodlands. The loud, carrying sound also played a role in farm culture and parades. Handmade with iron and plated with brass to resist rust, each bell has unique character from decades of use. Condition: Well-worn with visible plating loss, and surface wear; replacement clapper. Still sturdy and displays beautifully with an authentic rustic look.
