Later works are typically smaller. This exceptional vintage Zuni bolo tie is the early work of William and Geneva Zunie. The slide is fashioned in silver in the form of an eagle kachina dancer. It includes inlays of turquoise, coral, onyx, abalone, and mottled tortoise shell that is not found in later pieces. The slide measures 3" tall and 2 1/4" at the widest. Later works are typically smaller. The braided black leather cord, together with its cylindrical silver tips finished with hogan beads, is about 34” long. Altogether, the piece weighs 39 grams. The clasp on the back of the slide is marked “Bennett Patent Pending C31.” This is a typical fitting for the Zunies’ slides and suggests the piece was created sometime in the late 50s or in the 60s. It was most recently purchased in Las Vegas, NV. As an early unmarked Zunie piece, it could be made from either sterling or coin silver. Condition: Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description and are hereby incorporated into the description, specifically with regard to condition. To note, a piece of onyx inlay under the outstretched arm is missing. This appears to have been painted in and is not apparent unless studied closely.
