A very complex and detailed transfer pattern. There is shiny gold trim and the outer handle covered in gold. The porcelain is amazingly thin and light, and one set weighs just a tad over 4 ounces! The last picture shows a cup and saucer next to a regular size teacup and saucer for comparison. What 4 lovely porcelain demitasse cups and saucer sets! They were made by the German company Thomas, a subsidiary of Rosenthal starting in 1908. They are decorated on the saucers and inside of the cups with a pretty and very intricate band of rose swags, blue scrolls and compotes full of fruit on a cream background. A very complex and detailed transfer pattern. There is shiny gold trim and the outer handle covered in gold. The edges are smooth with an angled loop handle and a delicate little foot on the cups. The backstamp with “Thomas” inside a shield over “Bavaria” was used from 1908 to 1939 according to porcelainmarksandmore.com. Note that this does not include the country, Germany, so these would have been made before the US Tariff Act of 1930. This Tariff Act required the country of origin to be marked plainly, like “Made in Germany” so these were most likely made between 1908 and 1929. These sets are in excellent 96-118 year old condition. They must have been really taken care of over the years! I examined them closely with a flashlight and see no cracks, chips, or crazing and very few marks on the glaze, even when looking at an angle to the light. The gold has a little rub wear, except I do see more wear on the handles at the bottom, and there is little if any wear to the floral pattern. The glaze is still very shiny. The cups hold 1/4 cup easily (1/3 cup to the very top), stand 2 & 3/8 inches tall, with a diameter of 2 & 3/8 inches. The saucers’ diameters are 4 & 1/2 inches. The porcelain is amazingly thin and light, and one set weighs just a tad over 4 ounces! The last picture shows a cup and saucer next to a regular size teacup and saucer for comparison.
