Dating to approximately 1880–1910, this piece represents the finest tradition of European decorative jewelry — crafted at a time when intaglio portrait pendants were cherished symbols of classical education and refined taste. Design and Style The pendant operates on a pivot/swivel mechanism , allowing the wearer to display either side of the double-faced intaglio. One face depicts a female profile in classical helmet — almost certainly Minerva (Athena), the Roman goddess of wisdom — rendered with fine detail in amber-toned glass. The reverse face shows a second classical figure. The silver frame features elegant scroll and volute work with an ornamental urn-shaped bail — characteristic of late Victorian and Edwardian continental European silversmithing. The overall effect is of a miniature classical medallion.
