Both the domed lid and the lower bowl are decorated with a black-and-white toile-style transfer pastoral scene showing a young man in a hat leading a cow or ox, a reclining shepherdess, running dogs and sheep among leafy trees. The two halves are joined by a beaded gilt-metal hinge and a scrolled shell-shaped front clasp, and the egg stands on three gold-glazed splayed feet. The porcelain, transfer decoration and metal mounts all appear clean and intact in the photos, with the printed scene crisp and the gilt feet bright.
