A striking two-tone praire point or sawtooth edge borders the entire quilt. This lovely 85 x 90 inch quilt is a vision in its soft colors, and its cotton sateen fabric makes it equally soft to the touch. A striking two-tone praire point or sawtooth edge borders the entire quilt. This feature made it a "fancy" quilt, perhaps for use in a guest room. The quilt is obviously hand quilted, but I believe it to be machine pieced, as, on close inspection, the piecing stitches appear tight and regular.  In very fine used condition, this quilt has seen little if any regular use. It has been in storage for many years and has a few oxidation stains that often occur in quilts during the hand-quilting process. (See detail photos.) The fine cotton sateen fabric was obviously purchased to create this quilt, and did not come from sources such as old clothing, feed sacks or fabric scraps. I have dated this quilt from its use of pale colors, which were a trend in quilting in the early 20th Century, and are seldom seen in 19th Century quilts. Quilts with alphabet letters often dated from this time period as well. Owned by one central Missouri family all these years; stored in non-smoking environment.
