The back also says Handpainted in red on top of the glaze. Arnold Schlegelmilch bought a factory in Tillowitz, which was then in Germany and is now in Tułowice, Poland. This is a beautiful antique 8 & 3/8 inch porcelain plate, made by RS Germany that is professionally hand painted with gold roses and the century old technique of a faded background that goes from gray to cream to blush. The gorgeous gold roses have highlights and detail in dark pink, with green variegated leaves where the veins and edges have been outlined in gold. How bright the gold is, and how much it reflects, depends on the angle of the light on the gold. The backstamp displays the official Reinhold Schlegelmilch wreath-and-star logo paired with the authentic factory-applied orange "Handpainted" script, confirming this piece was decorated on-site by skilled artisans before leaving Germany. This exquisite collector's piece is finished with a sleek, smooth edge and remains unsigned, making it a perfect addition to any antique German porcelain collection. One side of the plate is a dark grayish green that fades into blush on one side of the plate and into the background color of the porcelain on the other side. There is a double filigree border around the plate too. Just the kind of decorative detail you would expect in an Reinhold Schlegelmilch plate! Many things about this plate! First the backstamp under the glaze, was used from 1920-1944, according to theoldstuff.com. The back also says Handpainted in red on top of the glaze. Arnold Schlegelmilch bought a factory in Tillowitz, which was then in Germany and is now in Tułowice, Poland. In 1910, the Tillowitz factory began using the "RS Germany" mark stamped in green. The Tillowitz factory kept producing porcelain through the Second World War. This factory was operated as part of the Reinhold Schlegelmilch enterprise until Arnold Schlegelmilch died in 1934.The Tillowitz factory exported most of its products to the US, and they were marked as R.S. Prussia or RS Germany. There is some rub wear, or scuffing to the gold of the roses. A bit of rub wear on the gold filigree border in places too. The rest of the plate is in excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing. Looking at an angle to the light, I see no utensil marks in the glaze. What a beautiful display plate, that has been well taken care of over the years. Just lovely. The diameter of the plate is 8 & 3/8 inches, and it weighs 11.5 ounces.
