The green backstamp shows an M, inside a wreath, the word HANDPAINTED under the wreath, NORITAKE on the top of the wreath, and “Made in Japan”. This particular backstamp was used from 1920 into the 1930’s. This is a really pretty porcelain cake plate / serving plate with gilded handles by Noritake that has been beautifully decorated with yellow and blue flowers. Maybe yellow daisies and blue cornflowers? The outer edge of the plate is painted in a cream band behind the flowers with a thin green vine with a few leaves connecting everything. The plate measures 9 & 1/2 inches in diameter and is 9 & 3/4 inches across at the handles. It weighs 1 pound 1 ounce. There is a line of gold on the plate’s edge and the handles are painted with shiny gold too. The M stands for Morimura, the brothers who started the import business to the US in the late 1800’s. This particular backstamp was used from 1920 into the 1930’s.  This plate is in excellent antique to vintage condition with no cracks, crazing or chips. Looking at an angle to the light, I don’t see any utensil marks in the glaze but there are a couple of specks of ash, and there is a bit of rub wear to the gold trim on the handles and on the edge too.
