This is for a lovely porcelain set of a teacup and saucer, made in Japan, marked with an M and “Angel China.”. Just a guess. The entire cup is glazed, including the bottom rim it rests on when put down, so how was it supported while being fired in the kiln?. This is for a lovely porcelain set of a teacup and saucer, made in Japan, marked with an M and “Angel China.” Not much information out there about this company, replacements.com does have some listings, and one of the patterns was from the 1930’s, but unknown when this lovely set was made. Since there is so little information about this company, and it was known to make porcelain in the 1930’s, I suspect this was made then, and the company stopped during WWII, when a lot of records were lost during the war. Just a guess. It is decorated with sprays of dark pink roses and rosebuds, a big spray on one side of the cup and a rosebud on the other side, which is repeated on the saucer. The edges are smooth and are trimmed in very shiny gold, with some on the handle and around the foot too. The porcelain of this cup and saucer is very fine and bright white and the set is in excellent vintage shape. I see no chips, cracks, or crazing and very little wear on them. There is some rub wear to the gold on the edges, like around the saucer, but not much elsewhere. The entire cup is glazed, including the bottom rim it rests on when put down, so how was it supported while being fired in the kiln? It cannot float in mid-air! I have seen this on another teacups made in Japan, and it looks to me like they fired this cup upside down, so that is why there is a bit less glaze around the top of the cup. There are minimal marks in the glaze on the saucer, looking at an angle to the light. The cup holds about 2/3 - 3/4 cup, and the diameter is 3 & 3/4 inches. The saucer’s diameter is 5 & 5/8 inches and the set is so fine and thin it weighs only about 8 ounces. Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree video for a closer look.
