Made in the USA but designed by the famous porcelain manufacturer of Germany, Rosenthal. They have a beautiful design of pink roses, and blue, purple and yellow flowers scattered on the off white or ivory colored porcelain, with sprigs inside the cup too. These are 6 lovely sets of porcelain teacups and saucers, made by Castleton here in the USA in a pattern named Sunnyvale. They have a beautiful design of pink roses, and blue, purple and yellow flowers scattered on the off white or ivory colored porcelain, with sprigs inside the cup too. The edges of the saucers and the feet of the cups are raised in a pearl edge and trimmed in gold. In the late 1930’s with the war looming, Rosenthal of Germany approached the Shenango Pottery Company in Pennsylvania to manufacture and supply the Rosenthal catalogue of porcelain products under the name 'Castleton China'. This saved Rosenthal shipping costs, plus any interruptions in manufacturing that could happen if/when war did occur. So that is what these are. Made in the USA but designed by the famous porcelain manufacturer of Germany, Rosenthal. Several years after the war ended, in 1951, Shenango purchased all the Rosenthal U.S. holdings in 'Castleton China' which it continued to produce until 1974. I couldn’t find anything to date this backstamp specifically, but looks this backstamp changed in 1951, so this set was probably made sometime between 1940 and 1951, although it could have been made later. The sets are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, stains, or crazing. There is minimal wear to the floral design and a bit of rub wear to the gold like on the edges of the cup and some rub wear to the gold on the underside of the handles especially where the scroll is (picture 19). There is little wear to the glaze looking at an angle to the light on the saucers. The cups are 2 & 1/4 inches tall, and about 4 inches in diameter and hold 3/4 cup. The saucers are 6 & 1/4 inches in diameter. One set weighs 9 ounces. Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree video for a closer look and see that gold shine!
