The boots and buttons are black, with the black also lightly painted to make an ermine trim. The beards are sculpted. Up for auction is a complete set of 3 LEFTON Santa ornaments bells imported mid-century from Japan. During that time, designers often shaped the figurine hats like a hook to make them more versatile, as a bell or an ornament. These are large (3” to 3 1/4”) ornaments and would hang and sit on lower, heavier tree boughs. The colors are so bright and festive that they are equally beautiful on a shelf or mantel. Like all vintage sets, the design varied on each piece - arms both out, one out, both arms in - eyes, 2 bells to the right, 1 to the left. The hook Santa hats have Holly and berry trim. The bell clangers are ceramic and each bell has the metallic red LEFTON Japan label. The boots and buttons are black, with the black also lightly painted to make an ermine trim. The faces are delicately painted with red bow lips and rosy cheeks. The beards are sculpted. These items were quickly manufactured and imported for sale in the dime store market. So crazing, quick painting, cold red paint misses, extra pottery and under glaze or under-paint marks or chips are possible. Many photos are included to help show the condition of these 65+ year old vintage items.
