Millefiori beads were made inn Italy primarily for export to Africa where they were traded for gold, ivory, palm oil and many other goods. Good condition for the age and process of making. The colors are centered on Blue with yellow and red accents. 45 Millefiori beads which derived the name from the Italian words for "Thousand Flowers".  They are made by using intricate patterned slices of glass melted onto a solid core to form a characteristic floral motif that decorates their surface.  Millefiori beads were made inn Italy primarily for export to Africa where they were traded for gold, ivory, palm oil and many other goods.  These beads came from Nigeria. Good condition for the age and process of making. The colors are centered on  Blue with yellow and red accents.  The ends are uneven from the process used for making these ancient beads.  They have been stored for many years.  They have been put in a 40" necklace using wooden beads.  Most of the beads are 1/2".
