Circa 1904–1918 Real Photo Postcard – Family Posed by Rose Bush with Dog – AZO RPPC Wonderful early real photo postcard (RPPC) showing three people posed together in the front yard of their home beside a large rose bush, accompanied by the family's dog. The handwritten identification on the reverse reads: “This is a picture of father Phoebe and mother also the pup Gertrude in our front yard by the Rose Bush.” The photograph shows the father at left wearing a cap, suspenders and mustache; another family member stands partially obscured behind the rose bush; and the mother stands at right in a high-necked white blouse and long skirt. Their dark-colored dog, apparently identified by the writer as Gertrude , sits prominently at lower left. The scene is particularly appealing as an example of ordinary American domestic life during the early 20th century . Rather than a formal studio portrait, the family has stepped into the yard for an informal photograph beside a rose bush that was evidently important enough to be specifically mentioned on the reverse. The postcard was produced on AZO photographic postcard stock . The stamp box has four triangles pointing upward, a style generally associated with approximately 1904–1918 , providing a useful date range for this otherwise undated photograph. The card was never mailed, and unfortunately no location or surname is provided. Pencil dealer/collector notations are also present on the reverse. Condition Good antique condition overall with age-related wear. Moderate corner and edge wear, light surface wear, toning and scattered spotting/soiling are present. There is some discoloration along the left side of the photograph and a noticeable crease at the lower-right corner , along with smaller handling marks. Reverse has age toning, the original handwritten identification, and later pencil notations. Photographic image remains quite clear with good facial, clothing, garden and dog detail.
